Already an active advocate for children throughout Rowan County, Perkins will now represent young children over North Carolina with his passion to see that every child grows up in a healthy, safe, supportive and nurturing environment.
Perkins calls our children “the best investment we can make.”
Rowan Business Alliance received the first ever Business Champion for Children Award this year, for the role it has played in the Rowan Partnership for Children in recent years. Perkins has served in numerous officer and committee roles for that agency As CEO of the 80 year old non-profit, Rowan Business Alliance works heavily on educational issues and provides thousands of dollars in scholarships to local students each year. Perkins also serves as a mentor for youth, serves on the PTA and has served on the Board of Trustees for the Nazareth Children’s Home in Rockwell. He also was on the founding board and served as Chairman of the Board for Communities in Schools of Rowan County. He is active in the Rowan United Way and fund raising for its 17 service agencies. He especially enjoys his work with physically and mentally challenged support projects he is exposed to through his membership in the Salisbury Civitan Club.
Perkins says, “ I am humbled by the faith that our legislative representatives have placed in me. The work of Smart Start and other public-private initiatives are critical for our young children to enter school healthy and ready to succeed. I look forward to providing oversight and technical assistance to the 82 local partnerships currently in North Carolina.”
